In view of the centenary celebrations of the Welsh Women's Peace Petition 1923 (signed by 390,296 women), 7 poets and 7 artists from across Wales have responded to each other's work.  Through words, artwork, film, sound and sculpture the exhibition explores the themes of: women campaigning for peace, future peace, Welsh women's voices and invisible voices.

Welsh Women’s Peace Petition 1923

In 1923 women of Wales organised an unprecedented appeal. 390,296  women (60% of the women in Wales) signed a Memorial petition, through the Welsh League of Nations Union (WLNU), appealing to the women of America ‘from home to home’ and ‘hearth to hearth’, to join them in a call for ‘LAW NOT WAR’. The petition was over 7 miles long and it was a truly remarkable Wales-wide effort involving almost every household, through peace activists going door-to-door, supported through county and community organisers.

Over 2023-24, WCIA and Academi Heddwch – alongside Women’s Archive Wales, Heddwch Nain Mamgu, the National Library and National Museums of Wales, the Senedd and Welsh Government, Universities and other prospective partners – will join ‘peace forces’ on a campaign marking the centenary of Wales’ remarkable Women’s Peace Appeal of 1923-24.

As a part of Bodfa Continuum - the possibilities of time, an exhibition at Plas Bodfa from the 9-24th of April 2022.
