An interview
with Wanda Garner
about her multiples:
'Cause for Concern’ and
’Symbols’
Where did you make these multiples?
In the studio of my house in Brynsiencyn, Anglesey
Any interesting or funny stories in the development of these multiples?
These were made before Covid 19 took over our world.. and were a reflection of my worries at that time... now there's even more to worry about!
Tell me about your experience with Unus Multorum and/or Plas Bodfa as it relates to your multiples.
I had planned to exhibit the artists' proofs of these prints in my 'Never Doubt sanctuary' . Plas Bodfa has had a significant impact on my practice in the last two years. The events have enabled me to take a journey along a path I hadn't anticipated and in consequence has been a really positive influence on my work.
You choose to make a certain number of Objects in your edition. Why this number?
I only make really small editions. My drypoints are made on plexiglass and the burr deteriorates with each pull through the press. 10 is the usual maximum, but I prefer to make 5/6.
Where do you imagine these multiples to end up?
Hopefully all over the world... anywhere they are appreciated!
Tell me more about the materials used in your multiple.
Why did you choose this material? What do you like about it?
I use plexiglass because it is cheap and it is possible to reuse ( I make monoprints on the reverse). The inks are Hawthornes, made in the uk, and the paper is heavy weight cotton rag.
Why do you make things (in general)?
It's a wonderful thing to use you hands, it's very human and connecting, especially in such a digital world with so many disconnected from the things around them and how they have come into being. For both of us, making is a grounding and mindful act that gives us a sense of well-being.
Any other information or stories you'd like to include?
I do it because I have to and because I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity and time to realise some of my my ideas
